Fall in love with sLOVEnia!

Welcome to the green land of beauty! sLOVEenia!

Hello our travelling readers! Today we want to represent you one of the greenest country in Europe – Slovenia! Yes, this time not the city, but whole country! Pretty cool, right? Slovenia is quite small country so you will be able to see almost all beautiful corners among your weekend trip. And this time we will be more concentrated on nature objects, because in Slovenia they are spectacular!

First of all let’s take a look to Ljubljana – the capital city of the country. The symbol of Ljubljana is the dragon, which dominates the iconic Dragon Bridge, and the city's most prominent attraction Ljubljana Castle, who’s Outlook Tower offers some of the most beautiful views of the city. The castle houses several museum exhibitions and presentations including, among others, Slovenian History, The Prison and Virtual Castle.

Talking about the most famous object in the city -  Ljubljana Castle, the ticket which includes the museum of castle and funicular costs 10 euros for an adult, for our savers there is an option to buy only the ticket of funicular which costs 4 euros and to enjoy the view from the castle hill. For our travellers with unlimited budget we can offer to visit all the museums (Slovenian History, The Prison, The Virtual Castle and so on) and exhibitions, prices vary from 10 to 20 euros and for our savers we can recommend just to walk through the beautiful old town of Ljubljana and enjoy the seeing.

Accommodation prices in Ljubljana is various like everywhere else, so we suggest to visit http://www.hotelscombined.com/Place/Price.htm and find the most suitable price for you. For travellers with unlimited budget we suggest to book an “Alpine Lakes” excursion with Adventure Slovenia (adventureslovenia.com) at the Ljubljana Tourist Information Centre (visitljubljana.com/en/tours-and-excursions) which will take you to the most beautiful lakes of Slovenia (maybe even in a whole Europe!) Lake Bled and Bohinj. Lake bled is number 1 objects for tourists; there is big variety of activities for our spenders! You can rent a sup board (1h – 10 euros), buy a trip to the Bled island with the ship (12 euros per person), go paragliding (once you fly over the Triglav Mountain, you’ll find yourself soaring over the lake, with spectacular views of the castle and island surrounded but turquoise blue water), you can go cannoning, rafting, kayaking and do more fun activities, lake Bled can offer you unforgettable moments, believe us!

For our savers we suggest to visit the lake by bus (tickets 2-5 euros). You must visit Bled castle, where the fee is only for volunteers, you can climb to the castle and enjoy amazing landscape. There is a possibility to rent a boat for the trip to the island, 1 hour costs only 10 euros and you can take your three friends! J And don’t forget, you MUST to try amazing Bled cream cake (~3 euros) it is the most famous meal in this area!

Talking about Lake Bohinj savers and spenders have pretty much the same opportunities, this lake is more quite, don’t have so much activities, it is for relaxing and swimming.

Slovenia is famous for its underground caves which are the best known in the whole world! For travellers with unlimited budget, we offer to visit Postojna CavePostojna Cave is the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world's largest karst monuments. Many books and other contributions have been written about Postojna Cave; speaking of tourist guides regarding the cave itself, almost 100 have been produced over 200 years. or 140 years, the Postojna Cave, as the only cave in the world, offers a unique and adventurous ride with a special train, which will take you into the cave, under spectacular underground arches, which are embellished with chandelier look-alike stalactites, through a beautiful subterranean world full of playful limestone sculptures. Prices to visit this cave vary from 30- 50 euros.

Less popular, but not less amazing is Skocjan Cave. This is an option for our savers, because prices here are lower: 7 to 16 euros. Škocjan Caves are the most important underground phenomenon in the Karst region and Slovenia is among the most important caves in the world. Due to their exceptional significance, the Škocjan Caves were entered on UNESCO’s list of natural and cultural world heritage sites in 1986. Guided tours take place every day throughout the year. Tour takes about 1h 45 minutes.

Important note! Don’t forget to dress up your warm clothes, because the temperature in these caves is low even in the middle of summer, when the weather reaches 32 grades of Celsius!

And finally, for the dessert, we want to offer to visit the beauty pearl of Mediterranean sea - Piran. One of the most photogenic cities in the Mediterranean,In Piran, you will feel as though you have stepped right into a picture postcard Piran has preserved its unsurpassed charm. This small city has the spirit of Venice. Our savers can only walk by the seaside and all those narrow streets which will leave them amazed. Piran is expensive city, it offers a lot of good restaurants with sea food straight from the sea, this is the possibility for our spenders, they can eat the higher class of sea food and go on a boat trip to the beautiful blue sea (~50 euros).

Important fact! Due to its location, Piran is not a car friendly town. If you do have a car, their is a large car park at Fornace which is 800m from Tartini Square, along the seafront. As you enter Piran, you will see the car park on your left as you come downhill and see the waterfront. There is a regular shuttlebus from the car park to Tartini Square. Other spots are extemely limited and hard to find around Piran and please beware that fines are high for parking illegally!

We hope that now you are wondering about your next trip which will be to Slovenia! What a county, right? What an icecream! :)

Always yours,
''Notebook of Travellers''
