First important thing to decide before travelling to Rio is accommodation. For
travellers with unlimited budget we suggest to live at hotel. There is a list
of luxurious and good hotels, which have prices from 200€ to 300€ per night.
They are: Hotel Rio Lancaster, Belmond Copacabana Palace, BEST WESTERN PLUS Sol
Ipanema Hotel, Hotel Santa Teresa -Relais & Chateaux, Sofitel Rio de
Janeiro Copacabana, Pestana Rio Atlantica Hotel. Also if you are with a group
of friends or family, you can live at a penthouse. Their prices are about 4000€
per night for 6-10 people. These penthouses are Penthouse Redentor, A05
Luxurious Pentahouse, etc.
For travellers with limited budget we suggest to
stay at hostel, that you can find under 50€. For example, Hostel CopaGreen
Pousada, Rio Hostel, Copa Hostel, Beach Backpakers Hostel. Also you can choose
to rent a room in someone’s apartments’. Just take a look at these websites: www.airbnb.com or www.booking.com.
Another interesting question is what and there you should eat in Rio? Traditional
Brazilian cuisine in general consists of root vegetables, fruits who grow in
that climate (mangos, papayas, guavas, granadillas and pineapples), rice and
beans as a base ingredient. Common meat in this cuisine is beef, pork. Also
there are popular to eat different kinds of fish and seafood. For example, breakfast
usually consists of fruits, lunch is the main and the largest meal of the day.
Most popular dishes: Feijoada (a black bean stew with various types of beef and
sausage), Brigadeiro (chocolate truffles made with condensed milk instead of
cream and covered in chocolate sprinkles), Pão de Queijo (little rolls of bread
with cheese baked into it), Vatapa (a spicy cream of fish and shrimp dish
cooked in peanut sauce).
Talking about places and prices we have some ideas. For travellers with unlimited budget we would suggest
to visit these restaurants: Ravena 21 there dishes costs about 445€, other
restaurants have prices about 90-10€: Carola Brigadeiro, Antiquarius, Manekineko, Porcao Ilha, Olymple. For travellers who save money we suggest cheaper places to eat: Restaurante Visual (meal prices 3-5€), Estrelas Da Babilonia (3-8€),Org Bistro (4-10€), Booze Bar (5-14€), Yeasteria Ponto Cervejeiro (3-5€), Yalla (5-13€).
Finally, very important part of trip is decision of places to visit. We suggest you some most interesting places to visit.
- Corcovado mountain in central Rio de Janeiro. That is spectacular and has many attractions around. Firstly, at the north, you should visit Maracana, the large soccer stadium which seats 100 000 spectators and is built to host the 1950 World Cup, to the south you will see the Jardim Botanico - Botanical Garden with 5 000 species of plants and trees. Price to visit Jardim Botanico is about 2€. Also you can see Ipanema beach, at its north, which is also really spectacular and attracts many visitors. Keeping a watchful eye over the people of Rio de Janeiro, the Statue of Christ the Redeemer (or Cristo Redentor) is one of the famous tatue in the world. That statue sits atop 700 meter above the city.
- Discover the Ruins Park (Parque das Ruinas in Portuguese) which was once the sprawling mansion of eminent Rio socialite, Laurinda Santos Lobo. This park is at present an al fresco café, fashionable exhibition space and live music scene. In the summer season many local samba and jazz bands give their performance adding a musical touch to its soothing ambience.
- Take the cable car up Sugarloaf Mountain for spectacular views and beautiful nature.
- See the incredible surfing waves of Prainha. Whether you conquer them yourself or just watch the water-bound athletes skimming effortlessly over and under them, these waves are impressive.
